Do you want to know how I became an Illustrator?
When I was nine years old I used to wake up early every saturday morning. This way I could draw an hour or two in perfect silence before rest of the family woke up. I usually drew characters from the Donald Duck magazine – Mickey Mouse was the best! (And still is.) My friends noticed my passion and they began to order pictures from their favourites. At that point I knew my future profession would be something art related.
After high school I studied art in a small Northern town called Tornio. I loved living there – surrounded by the nature and peers. (Of course in Finland the nature is always near.) The school provided top notch tools for creating art, animations, graphic design, photography etc. I did my practical training at Prague based animation studio and learned screenwriting and puppet making too.
I didn’t become an illustrator immediately after school. Before this entrepreneurship I worked about ten years in advertising business as an Art Director. At the year 2013, after having my second child, I decided to focus my career for illustrations – one of the best choices I’ve ever made.
Working as a full time illustrator makes me so happy and hopefully my illustrations reflects that joy. With the help of my work experience I can easily spot the big picture, manage schedules and get the job done.
